Ben Oostdam story # 519 Following is a scanned copy of my 1963 draft paper entitled:
THICKNESSES AND RATES OF GROWTH OF CORALS ON TOP OF THE HISTORIC LAVAFLOW NEAR LA PEROUSE BAY, MAUI
It was a pleasant surprise to be asked for this in May, 1999, 36 years later...
Having to scan it was less pleasant, but I hope it will be of use to
John Rooney (jrooney@akule.soest.hawaii.edu)
of SOEST, University of Hawaii.
This reminds me of June 1962 when I stepped into office of retired Professor
Bramlette at
Scripps and asked him for a reprint of his 1926 paper about
the bottom sediments of Pago Pago Harbor, Samoa.... (note that this also happened to be 36 years later!
NOTE added in 2009: 36 happened to be my Mother's favorite number, like in "chew your food 36x", "I told you that 36 times", etc.)
Professor Bramlette was honored, he said, because this was the first request he had received
and he fortunately had a pile of reprints which he had been about to discard....
