Letter from B.L. Oostdam Sr.
inviting his parents
about 1934
Dear Father and Mother,
The three of us would love to come for dinner next Sunday. We would arrive around 12:30 and stay till about 6 p.m. At that time, the upstairs family will be in church. We will have a large car come in front to drive the five of us to the Admiralengracht and eat a sandwich there. So count on that, Mother dear, so you order less bread, while we will order more.
We concocted this idea because I would love to see the expressions on your faces when you nose around in my house for the first time. That pleasure I would miss if you came, for example, on a Tuesday while school is in session. I sure hope this arrangement meets with your approval, because it can not be cancelled.
But I trust you will approve, right?
I am writing this letter while teaching ARTS during schoolhours, because I am too busy in my free time.
I believe I will go right now and ask van Ginkel for a free day on Saturday.
Well, darlings, see you on Sunday!
Gereetings from Truus, a paw and a kiss from Ben and Bennie (Bebbe)
