Dear Joh:
We received your postcard and letter in good health and are pleased that you are also well. Before last week Joh. Haagsma was here with us for some nine days having left his service but now is in service again in Oudemirdum with Jan de Boer. His family was all in good health but the work was poor. B. Hendrik had little to do in the butchery and shared work with Kanninga..
Mother left Friday evening with Rikus and Piet for Friesland, first to Roest. That had been the plan all summer long but had been put off because of the rainy weather. The other plan was for the three of them to go 3 or 4 days to Westwoud and to delay the trip to Friesland where she had been invited by some old acquaintances…On Friday morning I went to enquire about the costs and that was quite a lot: about 4 Guilders. I walked along the Handelskade and found the weather so pleasant that I advised mother to go to Friesland, which she preferred to do and just when we had decided when we received a letter from Roest with the announcement that Andries' wife had given birth to a young son and that she would be pleased if Ymkje could come over soon because it was such pleasant weather and thus the unexpected and sudden voyage started. Now I am here alone because it is Sunday afternoon and take this opportunity to write you because during the week we are very busy – we have been busy the entire summer, starting early Monday morning and finishing Saturday night. Week after week we always make more than 30 guilders fixing shoes and on top of that we have the shoemaking for Wittenburg but that is now the last week because he had to move because he is with the Trwentsche Bank and those gentlemen wish that he move into the city because he lived too far from the office which is located in the Spuistraat. Now he and his family and landlord desired that we rent the house and Anne would work there because he does good work and has good clients, but after many considerations we turned down the request because we would have had to hire an additional hand and pay 3 Guilders more for rent so that we would have had to earn quite a lot more. Now he would as much as possible recommend (him) to his clients and some four of them we have in a household where some 30 pairs of shoes are in use so we have work all week and with one and the other are earning good bread.
Now I do not have to report much more and also have no more time since I am planning to go to the meeting. Sjoerd is now at the Overtoom to visit R.Haagfen (?) and Anne has gone to Samplonius (?) to keep Sundayschool and will leave from there to Sbaie(?)
As soon as Mother gets home we will write you and ask that you visit with A for one night or more. It would be better perhaps for A that she come here for a few days because sitting for a long period of time is not always very good.
Now greetings
from your loving father
F. Boelsma

Especially greet all acquaintances you meet. Old Prof. Van Delft died.
