second semester at
Scripps, 1962

The second semester started on February 6, 1961 - with finals in early June - and the courses I took were:

Dynamical Oceanography, taught by Bob Arthur, one of the best organized teacher I have ever enjoyed

Instrumentation by John D Isaacs - a true genius idea-man (with guest lects by Jeff Frautschy, , Fred Spiess, Waldo Lyon, Victor Vacquier, Gifford Ewing and Ted Folsom)

As class-project, I reported on a (left)lateral-continuous sediment sampling device, proposing to inject a rapid-setting American Cyanamid gel

Geochemistry with Ed Goldberg

- although Goldberg advised me not to take this because I had only scored a "B" in the chemistry of seawater course, I did enrol because one's grades were based on weekly assignments - which sometimes took as much as 10 hours to complete. Hurrah - I managed an "A" this time!

Littoral Processes with Doug Inman and several guest lecturers: Paul Horrer, Ed Fager, Bob Arthur, Gifford Ewingon lagoons.

Also included were fieldtrips to Mission Bay saltmarsh and SIO beach in March, and to the Gulf of California
