April, 1963

From April 15-20, we ran quite some surveys and transects and had to spend a lot of time filling our bottles, which took over an hour each. I went to talk with Dr. Karl Leebrick, the President of Maunaolu College and looked into cheap transportation to Europe for the summer.

On Thursday April 18, I picked up Ricky at the airport and we settled the trailer affair with Ben Silva and Mr. Naganuma, the owner. Ben bought Ricky's old trailer and introduced us to a man who for $ 65 would build a trailer to the owner's satisfaction. In the mean time, Jason took Rose to Lahaina and she interrogated him about Eve and me.
On Saturday, Paul and I took Rose and Iona - her mother - to La Perouse, and made two dives even thought the weather was so rough that Iona stayed ashore. On Sunday, we took a tour of the Iao Needle and Ulupalakua Ranch.

The next week we had some rough water but accomplished a lot. We also made a deep dive on Molokini and harvested some black coral.
