November 5, Tuesday: Early breakfast with Francois and Dave,
after which they and Stocken discuss some politics without me.
In the meantime, I talk with Devlin, who dropped in to give us a new
Landrover and office, and also referred us to the Company Store,
where I bought some cigars, liquor and SWA stamps. In the afternoon,
we moved into our assigned house, and I read "Moving the Earth";
also drove to the sea with a few guards and a prisoner who was to repair the sterilizers. Sent telegram to Erik to secure drawings of surf crawler from Dave Ross or Erik Reimnitz at SIO. In the evening, we had further discussions about getting water from the sea, and went to a Peter Sellers movie about an old general. Start feeling at home!
November 6: After our breakfast in the elaborate guesthouse,
we explain the surfcrawler to Neil Shand, and ordered tickets to Capetown for
the weekend. After that, Stocken took us first to the Geology Lab where we
met Mr. Seldon - who gave us a tour - then on a fieldtrip in his Landrover.
We saw the four highly dissected and gullied terraces and some spectacular raised seacliffs which had been cleared of overburden sands in the process of mining.
We lunched in the landrover parked on top of a hill, and then groggily continued along the coast.

Saw two ostriches with young and also two "gemsbokken". |

Back home, I conqued out till 19:00, then took an evening walk through the desert(ed) village, which, however, boasts several social and recreational clubs.
