Thur., Feb.04: In the morning, I was relieved to mail in the article on Age of Lava Flows to the Geological Society of America. We had a staff meeting conducted by our rather cocky director Dave Smith, who urged us to wait for an additional 5 months contract with Anglo American. Good news: two diamonds recovered in the Tidal Concession! The "Rockeater"s drill bit is working much better now. A very dragged out discussion about van der Vloodt's dismissal, a bit of a Pyrrhus victory, which sat badly with Wyn and Leendert. That evening, Mercia and I went to Goodwood to celebrate brother Gus' 17th birtday.
Fri., Feb.05: I got up rather early to do some exercises and play with Soepie before going to the office. A rather dull day consisting of filing, making recommendations for the Tidal Concession Program and the evaluation of the ADK results, followed by a meeting of available geological staff.
Sat., Feb.06: "Family Day", haha. In the morning, I did my correspondence with McGill friends. Next, I paid the "sky-high" Jaggers bill including curtains for over R 40. First I scolded Mercia, then felt sorry for her. We went for dinner in an Italian restaurant, eating piri-piri with Wyn and Angela Davies. Since there did not seem to be any good "flics", we drove up Table Mountain twice and enjoyed the scenery. We also showed off our new house to be in Tamboerskloof, then went back to our "old" house in Seapoint to the delight of Soepie. I started a long slide show on my Hawaiian reef studies and noticed to my surprise that Mercia knew exactly where the slides of Rose began. She suddenly told us that Rose now had another Dutch boyfriend. Later, I tried to find out how she knew that, and she admitted having opened Rose's letter. Well, where is it? I tore it up ...drama, kassian.
