| Monday, December 21, 1964: Worked on MDC data for Dr. Murray in the morning, then after lunch Tidewater meeting with Messrs George, Murray, Daniel and Devlin: decided on upper limit of pay size to be 4 mm. Next, the evaluation meeting, which went well. That evening, we had a party at Jack's and Harold showed a good movie of Rockeater activities. Rosemarie was excited as well as exciting. |
| Tuesday, Dec.22, 1964: Still busy but somewhat more relaxed. Rockeater came in one day early, by 13:00, so I had lunch aboard with all the Dutch before taking Kleinjan home. At 14:00 I met with Dr. Fuller, at 15:00 with Dr. Sichel who disbelieved in "mining factor". Then out with Dave, Robin, Fuller till about 21:00. Still no movie-shots for Bascom . . When I got home, Mercia's entire family was visiting : sorry I got back so late!. |

Wed, Dec.23 - Sunday, Dec.27, 1964: A strange Christmas atmosphere, first, because it was summer, second because we were working so hard.
We did go out and have parties "in between', so to say. Sichel warned us again about the myth of a mining factor, and that using ratios one always underestimates the mean. On "Boxing Day"(Dec.24) I went to the barber's and also bought presents, including a large copper Mexican broche for Mercia. The evening featured an excellent Stephansen's party just for Mercia, myself and Soepie! Christmas Day itself we spent at home and at the Strand with (Ou)Tannie Dimples, then had a fine Christmas Dinners at Mercia's Parents'. Second Christmas day we spent in the office, working, helped by Dimples who was an excellent typist. Mercia stayed with her parents and instead of going to "My Fair Lady" we ended up at "Goodbye, Charlie!" On Sunday 27, Dimples and I worked in the morning, then had lunch with Mercia and took her back with us to the office to color charts, I then dropped them off at Caledon street, and went back alone for a push till 26:00, or 2 in the morning. Still dissatisfied, only 5 sections completed. |
