| Thursday, October 22, 1964 (continued): There was nobody to welcome us in Luderitz, and we were quite drenched. We went to Katz (a well-known name in Luderitz) and found out that there was no place on to-morrow's plane. We met Dr. Charles Stocken (CDM), who directed us to the guest-house. While he, Louis Murray and I had a beer, we discovered that we were all three graduates of the Geology Department of McGill University in Montreal, chaired by Dr. Thomas Clark! We ate a fine dinner at Katz and I drank some Jagermeister with Rolly Thompson and Captain Pierre Leroux. I ended up in our guestroom by 21:00 which I shared with Jack Campbell, who snored but made up for that by "finding" me a place on to-morrow's plane. |

We landed in Keetmanshoop 3 minutes before the plane from Windhoek, which fortunately had enough space to take us further

| Some passengers became airsick and were happy when we landed in Capetown by 13:30. Tried in vain to call Mercia so went to the office first by bus and taxi, paid my respects to Dave, then located Mercia at Rosemarie's. Spent the rest of the day in bed, probably to rest from a tough week of work an rough seas. On the other hand ...? |
