OCEAN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

p.82 Ben Oostdam's Autobiography
Tuesday, October 20, 1964: A beautiful day. We first finished Rockeater line 117 1/2. The shore party had problems again with their second generator. We picked up the anchor spread and moved close inshore on line 116: we finished that line by 15:25, finding no diamonds. Willie checked the fines, I took Van Veen grabsamples from the Klipbok. Then a pleasant surprise, the mail: to my regret nothing from Mercia, but a nice letter from Rose with cute photographs of little Dannyboy (by coincidence, it plays on the radio because this is St Patrick's Day, 2006)
Let's stay in the future and have a look at some later mining results: All our work on this cruise was north of the ADK concession and Chamais Bay with the minor exception of our reworking one of Collins scattered mining sites. Also see "holding back the sea", more recent details (2003) and trends, below sl; below sl-2; 2003 rosy.

This distraction serves to hide the fact that I have no 3x5 card record of October 21, but I guess that Klipbok came by from a roundtrip to Luderitz, carrying with her Dr Louis Murray and Mr Roger Daniel from Anglo. Presumably, we had an all day demo, and the next available record is that of the next day:
Thursday, October 22, 2006: We boarded the Klipbok to sail to Luderitz at 08:00 and everybody was glad I left. I was a bit seasick, as was Louis Murray, but Mr Daniel was enthousiastic, streamed out a fishing line, and was awarded with a large plastic bag when we passed Barge III near Plum Pudding.

We went seaward of Possession Island, which was rough so we were happy to put into Luderitz by 17:00.
