OCEAN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

p.80 Ben Oostdam's Autobiography

Friday, October 16, 1964: Early that morning we installed the fine-splitter which was troubled by several leakages.
We also experienced some dangerous waves while working on line 119, which we completed by 10:23.
While we moved on to line 124 1/4 we received a radio report from the shore party that Pete's landrover had broken down and that the Hydrofix wires in Dunkle had been "bitten" through.
More testing of the navigation system ensued and Klipbok was used to ferry materials and equipment from Rockeater to shore party. We also tested the vibrocore once again; work stopped at 18:30 and some Laurel and Hardy movies were shown.
Saturday, October 17, 1964: Completed line 125, tested the isotope and the hydrofix. Found quite a number of diamonds in 5 samples at 10m spacing. The vibro-corer got bent once more, and we "honored the weekend" by sailing to line 1819 where we anchored for the night.
Sunday, October 18, 1964: At 09:45 we already completed this "parallel to the shore" line - and fouled the anchor.
Willie was in a good mood Mr Fields was very active again and told some good jokes. At 13:30 we started our large scale sample at line 117 1/2 to Captain Harris' delight.
