OCEAN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

p.78 Ben Oostdam's Autobiography

Wednesday, October 14, 1964: We continued working on line 123 and unloaded the "Klipbok" which joined us under George's supervision and big captain Pierre Leroux' command around 10:00.

After a while we gave up on the large samples and started testing Jack's newly built vibro-corer.
Sadly, the structural tower, a.k.a. "Jack's erection" came back aboard bent out of shape, as did some of the cores later on. Willie and Rolly dived to check the seafloor and the drill-cone configuration. They took along our colored man Eric who also had gone to diving school. Rolly complained of ear-aches.
I found one diamond on the sorting table when inspecting the works in the forecastle, "down below". Mr Field kept on filming all operations till dark and we stopped "early" at 20:00.
