Monday, October 12, 1964: Woken up by Rolly Thompson at 06:00; poor Mercia had morning sickness and I felt bad saying goodbye before 07:00 when we picked up Jack and Harold on the way to the airport; the bus was late and Eric was late, and I had some words with the new plant operator who said Eric was lazy.
On the plane, not only Newsweek but also the forbidden Playboy with Marilyn Monroe. We landed in Luderitz by 11:00 where I was driven around and "organized" by Friedrich, and ate lunch with Jack and Harold at Kate's.
The rest of the afternoon was hectic with such chores as loading and unloading, inspecting the "Klipbok" on the slip, and helping Dr. Guest with his jobs. There also was a chubby photographer, and
a final bottle of beer before boarding the Rockeater at 19:30. The Klipbok was still being loaded with vibro-corer, drill pipes and drill heads, as well as ferro-silicate for the cyclone.
Everything was made ready for the "large samples" to-morrow, except that we still did not have an MDC geologist.. At the time I wrote this we were underway aboard the Rockeater at 22:05 and ready to go to our bunks.
