January 8, Wednesday: Worked on "Sparker" records, talked with Ferguson about AM9 grout again. Ate a large lobster with Pete and wrote a brief note to Denise.
January 9: Received a parcel from Holland with lots of licorice, hurrah! Talked with Beerstowe and worked on "Sparker" records and maps. Collective lunch at Tudor's. Saw Ian Fleming's "From Russia with Love" with Pete and had a hot dog for dinner.
January 10, Friday: Records all day. At dinner, Pete and I got together with a movie-star and her entourage, but I had to leave at 21:30 to drive to the airport and pick up Erik Stephansen. His plane was an hour late, but it was good seeing him again and he was eager "to get cracking" (his favorite phrase). I took him to the Grant Hotel where we had a drink and shook off some bar ladies.
January 11: Breakfast with Erik and Pete. Clued him in on my version of Beach Prospecting Project and offer some advice. Am a bit worried that he might run into (political) problems. He confirmed that Willard was angry. Lunch with the boys, where I met another Oranjemund girl, Cathy who asked me to call het later to-day about a party. That afternoon we went to Clifton beach to admire bikinis and experience the cold water. Talk with Erik about pending divorce. After some drinks, I called Cathy and we drove to Pinelands to pick her up first, then to Gardens to collect Marie, an interesting German-Dutch-Spanish woman with two children and her charming friend Rosemarie Bradley from Windhoek, SWA. Getting lost several times, we then went to Hohen.....(?) where Optician Benny Freeman was throwing a party with dancing the twist, lots of liquor and ambiance. Via a very full Navigator's Den
we went on, and more or less paired off on the way back home, Erik with Marie, Pete with Cathy and I with Rosemarie, with who I had a nice talk (only)
till 5 a.m.
January 12, Sunday: Got up late and had lunch at the Grant's with Erik and (my) Rosemarie. Then off to the beach and at 17:30 to Dave's buffet-party, where we had drinks, spaghetti and conversations till 21:00. I picked up Rosemarie for coffee, a Caroussel ride, etc. till well after midnight.
January 13: Still tired, I picked up two diving bottles for Joe Wright, took the company Combie to the garage, and helped clean up in anticipation of Bill Bascom's arrival.
