Part of our job was controlled burning of the undergrowth after the larger trees had been cut and before the heavy machinery moved in.
This was a potentially dangerous job, because we carried gasoline tanks on our back and used flamethrowers to ignite the bush. For safety's sake, we were also given shuffles, axes and watertanks with sprayguns.
A lot of drilling and blasting had to be done, too [below right]
