We stayed in Cheryl Dodds's lovely cottage.
Her husband had been an abalone diver in Saldanha Bay in the 1970's at which time his record catch of 5,000 a day had yielded a measly R 200, which roughly corresponds to the price of one single abalone a mere week ago : since Jan 31, catching abalone had been declared illegal along the entire coast - fortunately he had just made his quota of R 95K for the year.!
