At 08:00 I was served an excellent breakfast
and was astonished at the vigor a black customer
nearby displayed in poking and drilling his finger
into his left ear to clean it
(the ear, not the finger) ...
I left at 08:30 , odometer 02185, and reached the nice shady town of Winterton at 09:07, where I filled my 'petrol'tank for R 223 and picked up a hitchhiking student going to Colenso. From there I took R74 to Weenen where I stopped at Engen for a visit to their immaculate toilet, and to buy some samosas and milk and withdraw R1K from one of the omnipresent ATM's ...I then traced back a bit for the road to Estcourt (10:45) through a wildlife reserve. I picked up two hitchhikers to Mooirivier, where I had stayed in 2004 and even visited the same guesthouse - now under new management - but decided the town had become even less living up to its name ("Beautiful river") so I drove on to Rosetta.
