2005 BALKANS TOUR

Ben Oostdam

Subotica
SERBIA
From Nicola's office, we drove past the Synagogue and his (future hotel-) building to a restaurant, Just before we got in, however, young Nicola began to cry and reminded his grandfather that he was supposed to take a car-ride first. I insisted that we had to do that rightaway, so off we walked to the pleasant park in front of the City Hall, where young Nic soon drove around with a happy smile trying to hit (on) as many girls' (cars) as possible. Consequently, the restaurant was just in the process of closing when we got back there, but a pleasant waitress referred us to another place - which, however, also was closed. We finally ended up in a gypsy-like restaurant full of smoke and knise (smell of burned fat) where we had a fine steak and, of course, paprika and pepper.

Around 20:30 Nicola first dropped off his contented grandson,
then his grateful guest. Thanks, Nicola, for a wonderful day!!
