2005 BALKANS TOUR

Ben Oostdam

Bar
MONTENEGRO

In the middle of the afternoon, we reached the bus-terminal/railroad station of Bar. It looked deserted at first, but a kind Turkish man invited me for a coffee in the "BOSS" restaurant. I managed to get across that I wanted a room, not necessarily in a hotel. Another man, who spoke German, asked if I would go for a rate of 10 Euro, which I accepted. He then took me in his car to a recently completed house in the middle of nowhere, and introduced me to a charming 33 year old former Bosnian lady named Danka, who co-managed "BOSS" with her twin sister, Ranka.
I think I was their first paying guest. Danka did not speak any language I knew, but gave me a beer and a coffee. She smoked a lot and taught me to count in Serbian. I was shown a nice room, which included an exercise machine.
That evening, I walked along the boulevard to downtown and back and bought some bread, coffee and milk at three different places. I could not find any place serving dinner, but I was not very hungry and went to bed around 21:00.
