2005 BALKANS TOURBen Oostdam | Kotor
|
| I climbed many stairs and paid one Euro to climb to the chapel. Have to admit I only climbed partway till I reached a balance between where the view was glorious enough and when more heat and sweat would spoil the fun. Then I descended back into town and managed to use my visa card to collect 200 euros and feel rich. Spent some on chocolat, nuts and cheeseballs in a tourist shop where I asked the saleslady how she had escaped from my dream. She tried to answer but her English was not up to it so she had to bring in reinforcements. Late in the afternoon, I visited the very interesting Maritime Museum, and that evening, I had a long chat with NATALIE, the 33 yr old receptionist/student, mother of two children, 13 and 8, who was a Croate married to a Serb and called my host in Dubrovnik (Zetun Veliki) to confirm. She also admitted that some ten years ago the Serbs and Montenegrans had bombarded Croatian Dubrovnik, but that relations had improved since. |
| That night I was woken up by some very pleasant music and songs emanating from Hotel Cesare, and the next morning, after a fine ham and egg breakfast, I went there to find out the name of the ballads and to buy some CD's in the shop they recommended I charged my batteries and sat on the terrace gawking back at hordes of tourists, wondering what it would be like in the real tourist season, next month. The total bill was less than 30 euros, and I decided I loved Kotor. Got on the 12:30 bus to the border, on the way to Dubrovnik and beyond. On the way, I tried to find evidence that this complicated Bay is, indeed, a fjord? |
