2005 BALKANS TOURBen Oostdam | Budva
|
| After breakfast, I walked to the beach where they were preparing for the season. Met some tourists, and talked with a young German to whom I mentioned my memory of this very day in 1940 when the Germans invaded Holland. He later thanked me for not blaming him - of course not, you were not even born then! Went home for lunch - or rather just coffee and some bread - while watching Ivan and his Dad playing chess. Also said goodbye to the N.Z. couple making a tentative arrangement to meet them in Ston for oysters. |
| Later that afternoon, I visited the Citadel and the narrow streets full of shops. I took a lot of pictures (p.40) and visited the maritime museum. Got back home just before the rain, and spent the evening talking with Ivan and his parents. His grandfather had been 2m tall and lived to the age of 102; at 82 his wife had found out about him having an affair. They had been a rough lot, always carrying rifles and shooting anyone who would call them cowards. They were fond of the small lake fish which were grilled and eaten as snacks. |
| I had dinner at the GRBALJ Hotel next door: some savory fish, Cipol, (White Seabream)
followed by a desert of delicious pancakes with icecream and coffee. Total cost: 16 euros.
I had a good night's rest under a blanket because it was chilly. Early the next morning, I took a 2 euro minibus from Budva to Kotor, and enjoyed a scenic ride including a leaking tunnel 1,637 m long. After the bus stop, all I had to do was to walk through the old gate, cross the square and get into the spectacular Hotel Management School annex Hotel where I had made E-mail reservations with the Manager, Prof. Darko Lacmanovic. |
