2004 TOUR OF IRELAND - Ben Oostdam, page 23

June 5 (continued): After paying £ 5 for parking at Giant's Causeway, I joined the crowd walking downhill, ogling and taking pictures. I then purely for time-saving purposes ;o] took the bus back up and milled around the shop and restaurant till 15:21 when I continued in search of accommodation for the night.

In rapid succession, I passed through Ballycastle, Ballymoney and Ballymena, but saw no B & B's. I also felt "saturated" with scenery- including the lovely Antrim Mountains - and decided against Belfast on this tour, leaving it for a future visit.

So very soon I passed through scenic Antrim located on the large Lough Neagh. Before reaching the airport, I reached the White Horse Inn, at 17:01. Although officially dinner was only served by 6 pm, the charming owner, Suzanne, not only had Doris and Jim prepare me a chicken-liver aperitive followed by a 21 inch Sirloin steak , but also called around to find me a nearby B & B. After I washed down half of my ambitious order with dark beer, I got waylaid by two heavy drinkers who were watching horse-races on TV and had also kissed the Blarney Stone. After a half an hour of stories, I managed to escape with Suzanne and her friend who had me follow them to "The Lodge" on Belfast Road. Needless to say, I had the remains of my steak packed in a doggy bag. I had a talk with the German husband of the owner and had a good night's sleep until the next morning, the 50th anniversary of "D" Day!
