June 5: Awake at 06:30, very foggy and early, so back to sleep till 08:30, then the standard huge breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, toast, coffee, marmalade, rice-crispies. Also attractive redhead lady who acted like a "mantrap" - till I recalled that on my last museum visit I saw an actual mantrap as used by the British to catch Irish trespassers on their "plantations"...
| I then drove out of my way especially to see the intriguing harbor of Killybegs (right), where I arrived at 0954: it rained, and my photographs of trawlers quays and fishmarket were a dead loss...So I took the liberty to use this picture from the fine website of Kathleen and Henry |

10:55 Ballybofey (left), cosy, skies clearing, so photograph ok. Since I could not find road to Strabane, I took that to Derry-Letterkenny (on River Swilly) (N13), crossing the "Oily River", watched a soccer game , logging trucks, and even passed "Pluck" on my right. |
Then on to Londonderry and Coleraine while anticipating ULSTER with its pounds sterling rather than Euros. Stopped at noon near the Londonderry Country Club where I ate my own crackers and cheese to save time and money.
12:34 very crowded
Ballykelly; 13:07 stop at Benone Trailer Park for picture and chat with solitary Chinese cyclist who asked for the shore...told him to continue for a few miles, where I met him again at Downhill Beach. . .zai tian!
13:26 Castle Rock, small village where gliding is practiced.13:47 stop for £16.94 petrol (at least they now use decimal system, so no more shillings and pennies) and £50 in cash.
14:09 lovely Coleraine, where I asked a pedestrian which turn-off to take: he offered to walk along and show me, that's how crowded and slow the traffic was...along the river past the University on A29 approaching to-day's target:
14:35 THE GIANT CAUSEWAY!
