SHIBAZAO
to WANXIAN
June 27, 1983 |
June 27:
While having lunch, we sailed on from Shibaozhai to Wanxian, where we arrived at 14:00. This is a large town known as "the Gate to East Sichuan Province" with spectacular buildings, wide stairs and many docks, giant articulated cranes, and factories.
|
It is famous for its oranges and pomeloes ("Liangshan Shaddock") and is the alleged birthplace of the poet Li Bai. |
|
While waiting for clearance from the Harbormaster's office above us (source of continuous megaphone/loudspeaker messages), we climbed up the stairs at 15:00 and boarded an A.C. bus which took us around the town and allowed us ample time to walk around and take photographs |
