1965 SOUTH AFRICA TOUR : Ben Oostdam, October 1, page 3

After Calvinia, I followed a sand road through semi-desert with many gates, windmills, boulders and small flowers. I stopped and took picts at Nieuwoudtville near a ghost village with a sad cemetery testifying to the hard pioneers' life in the 1920's. At 16:00, Brandvlei with numerous dry river beds and white sheep with black heads. After a good dinner in Kakamas I drove on until 21:00 when I slept in the Opel near the Orange River, at Augrabies.
