Monday, August 5 :
We got up at 06:00, took a quick swim and had a small breakfast. We departed before 07:00 and had to drive into the sun on some new roads still under construction and being dynamited. We turned off to Thebes along a good and uncrowded road partially along the shore, and also with mountains, olive groves and sharp bends, followed by a sudden beautiful plain, probably Plataea.

Here some 4.5 km of fortification walls have been preserved, dating back from the millennium between about 500 BC and 500 AD

After some more mountains we entered onto the plain of Thebes where we stopped for some bad coffee, good icecream and cookies from De Gaulle for Rose.

THEBES, about 1350 BC 		The new town by the name of Thivai looked less interesting then the famous Thebes of the Seven Gates on top of which it is built. Recall Oedipus, the son of Laios, King of Thebes and his (their) wife Jocasta !
