Saturday, July 27:

We got up early and stiff and with throat-aches, Rose's the worst.

We ate a little, then descended to Antibes, where we drank hot chocolade , bought medicine and enjoyed the ambiance.

We searched through Nice for the Corniche (the middle one of three major roads along the coast) to Monaco. Spectacular views of the Principality , palace on a cape, and harbor. On passing the Palace, we surmised how much H.R.H Grace nee Kelly might like to talk to another American girl married to a foreigner (i.e. Rose).

We stopped at the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium, which Rose skipped to take a nap in the back of the car parked in the shade. I went in and even bought some expensive first day issue diving stamps.

Although the aquarium was not as spectacular as expected from the fame of its then Director, Jacques Cousteau, (also see 1970 TIME article) I enjoyed the museum and the early 1900's collection of HRH Prince Albert "the Whaler". (left) next page - contents
